Infineon TRAVEO II & Qt for MCUs: The Strategic Edge

Qt and Infineon recently announced their partnership to bring the world’s most advanced MCU graphics framework as a part of Infineon’s line of microcontrollers. The full range of Infineon’s graphics-enabled TRAVEO™ T2G microcontrollers is now readily available with Qt Quick Ultralite graphics runtime as a bundled offering and fully integrated with Qt's broader efficient development offering.

What at Qt Group we are most proud of is that this partnership not only brings substantial benefits on performance, efficiency, and dev satisfaction but, by relying on the Qt Partners ecosystem, delivers such benefits to a much broader user base than previously imaginable!

The Infineon TRAVEO™ T2G microcontroller is quickly becoming the go-to choice for companies looking for cost-effective graphical user interfaces sporting high framerate and up to full-HD resolution. With its automotive certification and powerful graphics capabilities, TRAVEO™ T2G has conquered a prominent role in the automotive industry, where it is used for a variety of applications ranging from instrument clusters to body control modules and infotainment systems. Concurrently, the TRAVEO™ T2G microcontroller is increasingly being used across other verticals, such as two-wheelers (motorcycles and scooters) and industrial vehicles, but it has potential for other sectors too, such as health care, industrial automation, and other use cases where instant boot, low footprint, and real-time control are at stake.

While delivering unparalleled performance and efficiency, the recently announced partnership between Infineon and Qt Group to ship TRAVEO™ T2G with included Qt for MCUs distribution licenses also opens new horizons of usability and accessibility. Toni Paila, Director, MCUs at Qt Group.

So far, the TRAVEO™ T2G microcontroller family has been available mostly in large volumes, typical in the automotive industry. Infineon is now bringing this microcontroller to the wider market via its regional distributors, such as EBV in Europe, Avnet in the US, and Intron in China. This means that whoever wants to utilize the TRAVEO™ T2G microcontroller in their product can now access it even in smaller volumes.

Through Qt Professional Services and the Qt Partners network, the local distributors can also offer detailed advice and consultation on the TRAVEO™ T2G microcontroller and related software development. The partnership opens up new opportunities for extra support for companies looking to develop products using TRAVEO™ T2G. Qt Professional Services and Qt Partners can help companies develop their product faster and with higher quality, also leveraging Qt Quality Assurance portfolio.

It should also be mentioned that, as part of the partnership, Infineon and Qt Group are constantly adding new hardware support (e.g. Cluster 4M Lite Kit), to further increase the range of opportunities for cost-effective choices.

Industry-grade reference designs

To further help its customers kickstart their HMI projects, Qt Group is currently developing a set of industry-specific reference designs. A reference design is a pre-built software interface that serves as a starting point or template for developing custom HMIs, for example, a motorcycle instrument cluster. The reference HMI design can be further modified and expanded for the target product and essentially provides a solid foundation for actual production projects. It features best-in-class code for common use cases and helps fully leverage the potential of TRAVEO™ T2G also in industries other than automotive—among which micro-mobility and health care are high-priority targets.

High-end performance on MCU devices

Infineon TRAVEO™ T2G delivers MPU-level performance with significant cost savings due to fewer components and a lower BOM. The Infineon TRAVEO™ T2G microcontrollers are based on the Arm® Cortex®-M4(Single core)/M7(Single core/Dual core) core and deliver high performance, enhanced human-machine interfaces, high-security, and advanced networking protocols tailored for a broad range of embedded applications. The TRAVEO™ T2G family offers high-performance functions optimized for a minimum memory footprint and embeds dedicated features to increase data security.

TRAVEO™ T2G is the only MCU-based solution for 60 fps displays at resolutions up to full HD. Our benchmarking shows up to 5x more efficient RAM usage on the same design with Infineon’s smart rendering technology, and up to 2x faster boot time with Qt. Qt for MCUs on TRAVEO™ T2G, empowers the highest level of design freedom. Toni Paila, Director, MCUs at Qt Group.
