Qt Developer Days Munich showcased a wealth of Qt content for every possible area of Qt interest. The upcoming San Francisco edition of the event adds some exciting new keynotes and sessions - all unique to the San Francisco edition of Qt Developer Days including a keynote about RIM’s decision to bring Qt to its QNX software environment.
RIM, Tencent and new Nokia developer relations head added to keynote roster
In his first major address since arriving at the company, Nokia’s new VP, Global Head of Developer Relations, Richard Kerris will present the opening keynote of Qt Developer Days San Francisco.
With a CV including roles as Senior Director at Apple and CTO of Lucasfilm, where he managed the R&D team for Industrial Light & Magic. Richard comes to Nokia from HP, where he was VP of Worldwide Developer Relations. His keynote will focus on Qt in the broader Nokia strategy.
Another new keynote for San Francisco is Research in Motion (RIM). RIM Vice President, George Staikos, will take the stage to talk about RIM, open source and Qt. The keynote will center around RIM’s decision to bring Qt to its QNX and BBX software platforms.
The final addition to the keynote roster for San Francisco is Chinese mobile leader Tencent. Mr Vigo Zhang, Senior Director, Tencent Mobile, will take the stage to discuss Tencent’s work integrating Internet services onto mobile devices.
Tencent is also headlining the upcoming Qt developer event in China this December.
These exciting new keynotes join Canonical’s Ubuntu Community Manager, Jono Bacon, and Qt Project Chief Maintainer, Lars Knoll, who will reprise his keynote about Qt 5, the Qt Project and future directions for QML.
Community port sessions featuring Android and iOS
The officially supported ports for Qt remain Nokia’s focus, but a healthy community-based effort also exists to allow Qt developers to take Qt to other platforms.
Chief among these efforts are the moves within the Qt community to build ports for Qt on Android, such as the work done by Bogdan Vatra on the Necessitas project. Sessions will be running on day two and three at Qt Developer Days for developers who want to learn more about this activity.
The San Francisco chapter of Qt Developer Days also features a new tech track session from Ian Dean which is sure to create interest - “Deploying Qt applications to iOS”. Ian’s session focuses on how to deploy Qt apps to Apple® iOS devices, such as the iPad.
Other community ports for real time operating systems such as Integrity by Green Hills Software are also represented at the San Francisco event.
Panasonic Avionics join Qt in Use
The Qt in Use track is bolstered in San Francisco by the arrival of Panasonic Avionics.
Over 100 airlines and over 3200 planes currently use Panasonic Avionics in-flight entertainment systems, and Qt is the standard software platform for their X series product line.
Software Manager, Gary Townsend will be on hand talking about connecting Qt, business and flying.
Here is some vision on the work his team is doing with Qt.
The San Francisco agenda for Qt Developer Days is the strongest ever put together for a Qt event. The event is drawing near, but there is still time to join us in San Francisco. To take in these great sessions and boost your Qt skills, register now.
