Qt Support Weekly #26 - Flash Support on Mac

Published on Friday September 21, 2012 by Andy Shaw in Customers Qt macOS QtWebKit | Comments

It has been a very busy past few weeks which meant that we were unable to put together a support weekly, after all the customer support comes first ;)  Now that the acquisition is complete I am able to focus on support again completely so hopefully normal weekly blog posts service will resume again.

This week I have a short post for you, but it is because of a big patch that we (including the help of a colleague in our Qt Consultancy team) have managed to put together which fixes a problem that a number of Mac users have reported in the past.  This problem is with Flash not working well with Cocoa on Mac in a QtWebKit based browser, specifically with mouse move events not being correctly passed through.  Additionally, 64bit Netscape plugins were not working either inside QtWebKit.

I am happy to report now at least that this has been resolved, it has not been integrated into a release yet, but it is currently waiting for an official review at webkit.org and once that is done we can start the process of including it into the Qt releases officially.  You can find the patch that is waiting for review that applies against WebKit trunk here https://bugs.webkit.org/show_bug.cgi?id=72358.  For those of you who are using a commercial Qt license then you can request a Qt 4.8 version of the patch in the meantime via the usual customer portal channel at http://qt.digia.com/Log-in-Customer-Portal/.

Until next week, happy coding :)
