Collaboration to Provide Powerful Voice Integration for Connected Car Solutions
The Qt Company (Nasdaq: QTCOM) and ICS today announced that they are working together to integrate Amazon Alexa into Qt and will be showing this integration running on ICS’s IVI media manager and cockpit control system at TU-Automotive Detroit in booth #B136.
The Amazon Alexa integration demonstrates the ability to allow consumers to interact with their car in the same manner they have become accustomed to with Amazon Alexa in their home. This provides the potential for a revolutionary breakthrough in the use of voice in automotive and the creation of a safer driving environment for all.
Voice has always been recognized as an ideal way for a driver to interact with an auto because it reduces driver distraction. However, the lack of familiarity with most current automotive voice systems, along with their constrained set of commands, has resulted in low use and adoption rates. This joint effort allows a driver to use the familiar Amazon Alexa technology for both local control as well as local and remote access to music. The “wake word” is customizable and allows for a natural conversational interaction.
“By integrating Amazon Alexa into the Qt framework we are making it really easy for people to integrate Amazon Alexa into their devices that are Built With Qt,” said Alistair Adams, Business Program Manager for The Qt Company. “We are excited to work with the leading and most innovative companies to take the driver’s user experience to the next level and to create responsive and feature-rich UIs that exceed even the highest customer expectations.”
“We believe that this is the first public demonstration of Amazon Alexa into an automotive IVI system from a third party,” said Roland Krause, Director of Engineering for ICS. “This collaboration between The Qt Company and ICS will bring the widespread success of the Amazon Alexa family of products closer to implementation in the automotive space.”
