Qt Quick now makes it easier than ever to incorporate 3D content into your application or HMI via the new Qt Quick 3D module. With this new functionality comes new challenges and workflows needed to get the most out of your target hardware. This talk will cover what Qt Quick 3D is and how developers and designers can leverage these new features to achieve their vision and performance requirements. When you incorporate 3D elements into an HMI design, you will quickly notice that on limited power hardware there is a huge penalty for using non ideal assets. Real-time rendering of 3D content requires a large degree of disciple and asset conditioning to achieve reasonable performance. In this talk we will discuss what the common pitfalls are and some example workflows to mitigate them. This includes the tools of the trade for conditioning 3D models, materials, and textures that work well on low end hardware, yet still look great. Speaker: Andy Nichols, Principal Software Engineer Andy Nichols is a software engineer at The Qt Company and has been working on the Qt framework for over a decade. He is currently the maintainer of the Qt Quick Scene Graph and has been focused on providing solutions optimized for embedded hardware. In the past, he has worked on the Qt Platform Abstraction, Qt Wayland (former maintainer), Qt Multimedia, Qt for Embedded Linux as well as Boot to Qt, and more recently Qt 3D and Qt 3D Studio. Qt Virtual Tech Con 2020 was held in May 2020. 35+ live tech talks, Q&As, and more were carried out by members of the international Qt community, in a free online event for designers, developers, and technology managers; focusing on interactive learning to create high performance UI/UX, applications with the Qt framework.
