2.19. Do I need to have a distribution agreement to develop a non-standalone software with Qt?
In order to develop a non-standalone software under the Qt commercial license, an additional distribution agreement is necessary. It explains the terms for distributing the Qt libraries and is included in your commercial Qt License Agreement. Please contact us for more information about non-standalone software product development with Qt.
2.4. Do I have to purchase a commercial license for every Qt developer in our team?
If you have chosen the commercial licensing, each Qt developer must have their own assigned Qt commercial license. It’s not permitted to mix Qt commercial licensees with Qt (L)GPL licensees in one project.
2.5. Why and when do I need a license?
The Qt Framework is dual-licensed under commercial and open-source licenses. The commercial Qt license gives you the full rights to create and distribute software on your own terms without any open source license obligations. The Qt open source licensing is ideal for use cases such as open-source projects with open source distribution, student/academic purposes, hobby projects, internal research projects without external distribution, or other projects where all (L)GPL obligations can be met.
2.8. Can I continue to use my commercial license after it has expired?
If you are a legacy perpetual license holder, you can continue to use your Qt license if you choose not to renew your annual support & maintenance contract. Please note that you will not have access to support, bug releases, or patches. If you are a term or subscription license holder, your rights to continue using the tools, APIs and libraries expire when the term expires, or the subscription is canceled. You will not have the rights to future development or distribution.
2.9. Can I continue to distribute my application after my commercial license has expired?
No. You are not permitted to further distribute your applications.
If you have unused Qt for Device Creation Distribution Licenses, you may continue distribute the application with your device for a period of 6 months. You are however not allowed to further develop or maintain the applications.
4.2. Can I cancel my subscription at any time?
You can cancel your subscription (Qt commercial license or specific Qt modules) at any time and won't be automatically renewed at the end of your current term. However, note that when your subscription has ended, you will not be able to access Qt Creator or specific modules and continue developing. Our tools and modules are only available with an active subscription.
9.1. What will happen to my license when the project is completed?
Your commercial or open-source license is not bound to a project, especially your active commercial Qt license is eligible for several development projects. However, you are not allowed to mix open-source and commercial projects/developers. Either your project follows the open-source obligations or goes under Qt commercial where all related Qt developers have the right commercial Qt license.
9.2. Can I use one license for multiple projects?
Yes, you can use your commercial or open-source developer license for multiple projects. But you are not allowed to mix projects done under open-source obligation with Qt commercial ones.
9.3. Can a commercial license be assigned to another person?
Yes. If you are defined as a License Manager for your team, you can assign licenses from one user to another in your Qt Account under the Assign licenses section. Note that the License Manager can assign licenses only once within six months.
9.4. Who is a License Manager?
Every commercial license has its own license manager. This person can be the same person as license holder or another person in your team. Changes or requests for defining the License Manager in your team can be ordered from the Support Center by opening a new support request. The License Manager can assign licenses from the user to another in his Qt Account.
9.6. How do I transfer my license to someone else if I am no longer on the project, or at the company?
9.6. What kind of support is included in the commercial offering?
