An adaptive HMI for the intelligent factory

Discover how NXP and Qt are transforming factory operations with an intelligent HMI powered by the i.MX 95 and Ara240. Combining secure user identification with Al-assisted interactions, the solution delivers role-based visualizations and streamlined machine control to help create a more connected, secure and efficient factory environment.

The setup

  • NXP FRDM i.MX 95 board running the Qt-based HMI

  • NXP Ara240 discrete neural processing unit (DNPU) for on-device AI inference

  • NXP SR250 ultra-wideband (UWB) module for presence detection

Four scenarios

    • Two-factor sign-in. The panel unlocks only when a UWB badge and face recognition both match. A separate view enrolls and manages users.

    • A 3D digital twin. The robot cell sits beside a 2D device list, live measurements, and notifications. Operators see production status; engineers see diagnostics.

    • Robot and conveyor control. A focused HMI for the robot arm and conveyor belt, built for touch and quick decisions.

    • Agentic autoconfiguration. An on-device AI agent detects a newly connected sensor and suggests how to configure it. With one tap from the engineer, it goes live on the dashboard.

Qt Group in Industrial Automation

From programmable logic controller (PLC) panels to supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) systems and robot teach pendants, manufacturers build industrial software with Qt. One framework covers microcontrollers, embedded processors, industrial PCs, and desktop, so teams reuse code across every device in the plant.

  • Real-time 2D and 3D graphics for dashboards, digital twins, and robot visualization on embedded hardware

  • Industrial connectivity built in: Qt OPC UA, Qt MQTT, Qt Serial Bus (Modbus, CAN), and Qt GRPC

  • Built for long life cycles: Long-Term Support (LTS) releases, security maintenance, and Qt Safe Renderer for safety-critical information

  • Design to test in one toolchain: Qt Design Studio, Qt Creator, Squish, and Axivion
