The Way Developers Use AI Has Changed
When Qt AI Assistant was introduced, the state of the art in AI-powered software development was the single-turn prompt: select a block of code, ask for a test case, an explanation, or some boilerplate QML, and review the result.
Developer expectations have since moved on.
Today's AI agents understand an entire codebase and can carry out multi-step work on a developer's behalf - analyzing code, editing files across a project, running commands, and triggering builds - with the developer acting as the director of the workflow rather than the author of every prompt.
A single-turn assistant no longer meets that expectation. To ensure we invest our resources where they deliver the most value for you, we are retiring the Qt AI Assistant and focusing on our AI-powered development tools instead.
Qt Group Already Leads in Agentic Development for Embedded
Our agentic offering is already considerably stronger than what Qt AI Assistant could deliver. Qt- and QML-specific MCP services and agent skills give general-purpose agents the deep, embedded-specific Qt expertise that generic models lack, improving code quality while reducing token costs.
On top of that, Qt Creator 20 ships the ACP Client extension, which adds a chat panel built on the Agent Client Protocol (ACP).
Because ACP is an open, industry-supported protocol, you can bring the agent you already use – Claude Code, Codex, Qwen Code, GitHub Copilot, and others – directly into Qt Creator, with the MCP Server extension exposing the IDE's own state and actions to those agents.
What This Means For You
The AI Assistant will be retired according to the following schedule.

End of deliveries: 30 September 2026 - Qt AI Assistant is delivered as an extension within Qt Creator, and this extension will no longer be included in or distributed with Qt Creator after this date.

End of support: 31 December 2026 - Technical support for Qt AI Assistant will end on this date.
