Next-Gen Cockpit Built with Qt

SmartWheel

The Koenigsegg Jesko has moved away from the traditional instrument cluster. The steering wheel instead hosts a similar functionality, but in a much more compact and racing-inspired packaging. The SmartWheel's UI follows the steering wheel orientation in real-time and keeps its contents in alignment against the rotation when the steering wheel turns. The buttons feature touch displays and haptic feedback.

SmartCluster and SmartCenter

The SmartCluster marries the IVI system with the car's key instruments, displayed with a digital readout instead of traditional analog gauges. SmartCenter serves as Koenigsegg's design and implementation of an automotive head unit.

With the recent LTS release, we will benefit from new features very well aligned with current and future system usage and design. The same goes for the expanding toolchain. I am also pleasantly surprised by Qt's proactive approach to mutually define the roadmap ahead.

Qt Engaged for Break-Neck Development Speed

What makes Koenigsegg a special case is that they design their own electronics. Inevitably, developing software for highly customized hardware requires a lot more effort, and introducing new concepts and innovations along the way takes extra time. That's why Koenigsegg hired Qt Professional Services as their box team to help them meet their deadlines.

Qt Professional Services:

improved cluster boot time;
co-built the architecture design of the cluster, IVI, and HUD;
implemented features such as OTA updates and WiFi connectivity;
quickly onboarded new Koenigsegg employees to the framework;
helped with version upgrades.

Besides the help of Qt's experts, Qt as a framework itself added a lot of momentum to Koenigsegg development efforts.

There is an apparent benefit in having a standardized framework in all aspects of software development. We see the Qt application framework as an investment to future-proof our continued development.
