Qt 6.5 Reaches End-of-Support in April 2026
January 19, 2026 by Qt Group | Comments
Extended Security Maintenance Is Now Available
Standard support for Qt 6.5 will end after April 3, 2026. After that, the release will be in EoS (End of Support) state and will only be supported through additional services. Customers distributing applications and embedded devices using Qt 6.5 should evaluate how to access technical support and maintenance patches which may include security fixes. Standard commercials terms still apply after End of Support.
Update to the Latest Qt 6 Version Now
It is highly recommended to update to the latest release for any new software development projects.
Qt 6.8 LTS, released in October 2024, will be supported and maintained up to October 2029, following recent changes to Qt LTS support period. In addition, the other minor releases since 6.5 have brought a wealth of improvements and new functionality for your benefit.
- Latest LTS, Qt 6.8 comes with improved performance and stability; your existing code will run better without changing a single line, also on new platforms and devices. In addition, there are several new modules that are fully supported, including Qt Graphs, Qt HttpServer, and Qt GRPC.
- Latest Minor release, Qt 6.10, highlights out-of-the-box accessibility, easy imports for vector animations, UI improvements and much more to keep your product modern.
There is binary compliance and full source compliance between Qt 6.5 and the newer Qt 6 releases, ensuring a smooth update. You can learn more about Qt's release cycle here.

Introducing Extended Security Maintenance for Qt 6.5
In some situations, it may not be feasible to update to a newer release. Customers who intend to extend their ability to maintain and secure their Qt 6.5-enabled devices and applications can now purchase a service subscription to Extended Security Maintenance.
This subscription provides you access to Critical Vulnerability and Security (CVS) maintenance patches relating to most Qt libraries (third party libraries are not included, please refer to license agreement for the exact details) after the end-of-support (EoS) with the following conditions:
- The provided patches can be used by the organization across all applicable products.
- Each software developer will additionally need an active Developer License.
- The subscription does not include Technical Support, assistance applying the patches, or patches for 3rd party libraries or dependencies. Please contact us about Extended Support or Qt Professional Services if these are required.
- When security issues are confirmed, work will begin, and patches will be provided ASAP.

Extended Support to help you with your burning issues with older versions of Qt
If you want to make sure you will not get stuck on technical issues, you may also need technical support for your project. You can purchase an Extended Support subscription, which will include standard support T&C for old Qt software already in EoS. Extended Support comes with certain limitations:
- Includes a max. 5 hours of work per ticket, additional hours available as a service. Usually over 96% of all cases are closed in less than 5 hours.
- Specific to a Qt software version, but not limited to Qt 6.5; you can purchase Extended Support for old Squish, Qt framework, Qt Creator or other currently unsupported software.
- Provided under Standard Support terms. Older software version reference development hosts and targets (HW + OS combinations) may be limited due to availability.

Qt Professional Services for Additional Needs
If you have additional needs to what is offered under Extended Security Maintenance and Extended Support, for example, support with your specific environment and hardware, we recommend setting it as a specific service for your needs. You can contact Qt Professional Services to discuss a bespoke project to support with this.
