Medec’s Built with Qt medical devices offer superior user experiences with patient safety in focus
Medec specializes in developing anesthesia solutions ranging from manual devices to complete ventilators and breathing stations. Built with Qt, Medec’s latest flagship products feature their Puretouch UI, which is a touch screen UI on their medical devices improving user friendliness and ensures patient safety in operating rooms.
Every day 25.000 patients all over the world are safely taken through surgery by a Medec anesthesia workstation. With more than 40 years of experience in the medical device industry, Medec continues to be a front-runner when it comes to modernizing ventilator systems, creating ventilators which are highly sophisticated.
Touchscreen technology in operating rooms enables seamless user experience
Medec is bringing touchscreen technology into the operating room. Qt is a proven software development framework that has helped Medec create new automatic ventilator system software. With Qt, Medec has developed the Puretouch UI. Operators can control the system and monitor crucial patient information on a single touchscreen. This software provides a seamless user experience with added functionality, allowing for better interaction with data while ensuring equipment reliability. Simultaneously, users have a full overview of all critical functions which are vital to ensuring patient safety.

Medical equipment manufacturers adhere to strict regulations and guidelines in the US and EU. Qt’s framework supports the international standard IEC 62304: Medical device software – Software life cycle processes which provided an added a benefit for Medec. Medec’s system can verify its own system status and thus fully complies with the standards and guidelines defined by the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC).
Qt Consulting provides a flying start
To ensure a flying start to their project, Medec hired consultants from The Qt Company who provided initial training to get their developers up to speed on the framework and tools. Qt consultants also assisted Medec initially with technical and performance challenges and in the development of the user interface.

According to Kristof Braem, CEO of Medec, “The Qt Company consultants gave us initial training which really helped us kick start the project and avoid common pitfalls during software development enabling us to get our product out to the market faster.”
