The Qt Company to Participate in Junction, Europe’s Biggest Hackathon

Event to Bring Together Global Community of Developers, Designers and Entrepreneurs to Help Advance Embedded Device and IoT Technologies

ESPOO, FINLAND and BOSTON, MA--(November 22, 2017) - The Qt Company (HEX: QTCOM) today announced its participation in the upcoming Junction hackathon event, taking place in Helsinki, Finland on November 24-26, 2017. At Junction, Qt will host a challenge as part of the event’s Industrial Internet track. The challenge, Cross Platform for Desktop and Embedded, will task developers to create fluid, high-performance and intuitive UIs, applications and embedded devices for the embedded home, IoT and/or industrial space sector.

Junction is Europe’s biggest hackathon and is a converging point for thousands of developers, designers and entrepreneurs from around the world. In 2016, Junction provided the biggest hackathon experience in Europe by bringing together 1,300 attendees from over 70 countries. This year Junction will feature participants from over 80 countries turning ideas into actual projects together with like-minded hackers.

“We know that the future is not built by individuals but by communities, ideologies and beliefs, and that’s why Junction is much more than an event – it’s a movement with the goal of inspiring and fostering a community of creators,” said Ville Leppälä, CEO Junction. “At Junction, we believe a fun, open-minded environment, featuring innovative industry partners and massively creative and talented developers, is the beginning of creating the success stories of tomorrow.”

Teams participating in Qt’s challenge will download Qt software before the event, and will use Raspberry Pi boards, Texas Instruments CC2650STK Bluetooth LE sensor tags and APIs to create fluid, high-performance and intuitive UIs, applications and embedded devices – with the same code base for all platforms. Qt’s developers and specialists judging the solutions will focus on the challenge’s participants’ innovative use of Qt, as well as the overall user experience. The prize for this challenge is a full Qt developer license.

“Smart devices are everywhere – in our homes, cars, workplaces and pockets – and they’re having a profound impact on not just the technology landscape, but the way we live our daily lives,” said Lars Knoll, Chief Technology Officer, Qt. “We share Junction’s view that the highly talented global developer community will play a huge role in helping individuals and organizations harness the potential of the Internet of Things, and our goal is to help developers cost-effectively design, build, deploy and maintain software while delivering a seamless user experience across all devices.”
