Nuremberg – 22 February 2016 – At Embedded World 2016, The Qt Company will showcase 20 new demonstrations that illustrate the flexibility and power of the Qt cross-platform application development framework in creating advanced, intuitive human-machine interfaces (HMIs) for embedded applications. These demos will include application-specific design references and customer case studies for the automotive, medical and industrial sectors.

Automotive

In the spotlight is the ‘Qt Automotive Suite’ – a new ready-made automotive development offering – recently introduced by Qt and its Partners KDAB and Pelagicore. By combining proven components and tools used in the industry into a single offering, the new product enables solution providers to create stunning UIs at the fraction of time, supporting the needs of automotive OEMs and Tier1’s.

Among the other highlights for the automotive sector are a concept application for a car instrument cluster HMI and an interactive computer aided car design with advanced 3D rendering. Featuring positioning and map location, 3D and multimedia, the Qt Instrument Cluster is an HMI application that enables developers to explore different UI concepts in vehicle instrument clusters. The system also demonstrates the easy integration of CAN Bus communication via new Qt APIs showing an external CAN Bus connected control device for the cluster.

Using the Qt 3D and Qt Quick rendering technologies, the second demo displays a 3D model of a Dodge SRT Viper (by Qt Partner KDAB) where the user can interact with the car and perform several operations. These include manipulating parts of the vehicle, accessing a parts explorer, describing the key elements of the car, and cutting into the car using up to three clipping planes. The future of GUIs is heavily going towards 3D and with the modern Qt offering and the Qt 3D module the creation of 3D GUIs is more seamless than ever before.

Medical

High-quality image rendering is also at the heart of a medical demonstration developed in conjunction with the Qt Partner Adeneo. Built around Qt 5.4 with OpenGL acceleration, this connected medical system offers highly integrated 3D rendering, dynamic per pixel and bump mapping, and web connectivity.

A second medical demonstration shows how Qt and Wind River’s VxWorks can be used to create innovative embedded devices for health monitoring systems.

Industrial

For developers of industrial systems there are demonstrations of scalable gauges, industrial multimedia applications and robot visualization.  A sample dashboard developed in conjunction with the Qt Partner e-Gits shows graphically appealing presentations of a variety of customized gauges, while the combination of Qt and open source platform GStreamer is used in a demonstration of a powerful cross-platform multimedia application for pipe inspection. The industrial automation demo–also developed in conjunction with e-Gits–is a 3D robot application providing visualization of controller data using CAD models and allows control of the UI using a flexible, multi-touch gesture framework.

About The Qt Company

The Qt Company, a subsidiary of Digia Plc. (NASDAQ OMX Helsinki exchange -DIG1V) is responsible for Qt product development, commercialization and licensing under commercial and open-source licenses. Used by around 1 million developers worldwide, Qt is a C++ based framework of libraries and tools that enables the development of powerful, interactive and cross-platform applications and devices. Qt’s support for multiple desktop, embedded and mobile operating systems allows developers to save significant time related to application and device development by simply reusing one code. Industry leaders such as Navico, ABB, Pitney Bowes, Thales, Michelin, Magneti Marelli and Sennheiser power their products with Qt for their in-vehicle devices, industrial automation applications and mission-critical systems. The Qt Company operates in China, Finland, Germany, Korea, Norway, Russia and USA. Code less. Create more. Deploy everywhere. To learn more visit http://qt.io.
